About Us

Hello,

My name is Craig Stein, the workshop manager of Stein’s Garage with my father, George. To help you choose Stein’s for your car servicing needs, I thought I’d share with you a bit about our history, our culture and our approach to business. At Stein’s, we love what we do and are good at it, which is why we are so well loved. We enjoy a laugh with our customers, but we know that what is most important to them is that we hand them back an immaculately serviced car, on time, for the best price possible. As our reviews will tell you, we deliver stellar results all the time!

Humble origins

My father and I started working together in 1986, when I was 16, renting ramps at various garages in the Edinburgh area. 5 years later, we ended up at Blackley’s Garage, in the converted railway arch located at 18 Gordon Street in Leith, which is Stein’s Garage’s home today. Blackley’s also occupied 16 Gordon Street and when the whole business came up for sale in 1993, my father seized the opportunity. A year later, we sold 16 Gordon Street for a healthy profit and invested the money into making Stein’s what it is today.

A family affair

Our facility is actually bigger than it looks from the outside and we now handle thousands of cars every year. People are surprised to learn that there are only four of us working at Stein’s and one of them, my father, is semi-retired! He helps out when he is around, but he does love his holidays, which we certainly don’t begrudge him. He has earned them! My nephew, Gregor, and a long-standing family friend, Patrick, are also with us, so Stein’s very much revolves around family. We’re a close-knit group and we love making our customers feel part of our family.

Total dedication

As you can probably guess, I run the place. I’m totally committed to making Stein’s an on-going success, so I’m always the first one in and the last one out. But I will admit to enjoying my weekends off! Not only am I an MOT tester, mechanic, problem solver, tea maker, internet guru and company secretary, but also a businessman with a keen sense of what constitutes excellent customer service. And that is what I want to share with you now, to give you a sense of what you can expect when you get your car serviced at Stein’s.

Stein’s has thrived because we treat all of our customers with care, the way we would like to be treated, and those customers have then shared their experiences with others. We offer a winning combination of low prices and quality workmanship, all with a personal touch. And we are sensitive to people’s needs, making sure that each customer fully understands what work we recommend doing on their car and why. Communication is of paramount importance to us, so our customers always know the status of their cars. We do everything with a smile on our faces, which makes us very approachable, so do try us out!

We pride ourselves on how we conduct ourselves around our female customers. At Stein’s, women experience none of the nonsense they might do elsewhere. Once you’ve tried us out, we guarantee that you’ll keep coming back for as long as you live in the area! We are so well respected that we even have customers coming from further afield, such as Glasgow and Fife, for routine maintenance and emergency jobs. One woman called me from Glasgow when her exhaust fell off and I found her a trusted garage more local to her, organised the work and she was delighted. This is just one example of where we go the extra mile to ensure that everyone is well looked after.
